The State of Qatar, represented by the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority and in coordination with the permanent delegations of the State of Qatar in New York, participated in the high-level meeting to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The meeting organized at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 23 May 2018, in cooperation with the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with the participation of States parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption and a number of relevant international organizations.
The meeting was opened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr.António Guterres, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Mr. Yuri Fedotov. The high-level discussion included a plenary meeting, two separate expert discussion meetings and a wrap-up session.
Many States parties to the Convention have demonstrated their successes in the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the challenges they face in this area.
In his speech to the meeting, the delegation of Qatar referred to the achievements of the State of Qatar in preventing and combating corruption, which made it high on the international indicators concerned. The State of Qatar also expressed its support for the regional and international efforts to combat corruption and its determination to move forward in this field, in the belief of the importance of preventing and combating corruption, which will achieve the sustainable development of the peoples of the world.
